Landscape Design Tips That Can Change Your Life

Add a water feature

Adding water to your landscape is a great way to make it more aesthetically pleasing, and it can even increase the value of your home. A few popular water features include fountains and ponds. Many homeowners are also adding small ‘water walls’ or ‘water curtains’ made of metal or stone to their properties. If you’re worried about the maintenance that comes along with having a water feature, don’t stress! Most people who have them say they require very little upkeep and don’t demand much money. Plus, they may actually save money on landscaping costs in the long run by reducing soil erosion and the need for frequent irrigation; so not only are they beautiful, but they’re beneficial for the environment as well!

A few tips when choosing your water feature:

  • Consider hiring a professional designer to help you decide which types of plants and stones would best complement your current landscape design.
  • Make sure whatever type of material is used in constructing its base will not rust over time due to exposure from being around moisture all day long. If possible, try using re-bar instead (this metal does not oxidize).
  • Be careful not to overdo it—too many colors or textures can clash with each other if not done properly!

Use plants with multiple seasons of interest

When you are designing your garden, consider planting trees and shrubs that will provide not only spring color from their flowers, but also summer and fall color from the leaves or berries. The azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons and gardenias give us beautiful flowers in spring and then keep their green leaves for the rest of the year. Here are some others:

Redbud trees have pretty pink or white blooms in early spring and then a purplish-yellow leaf in the fall; dogwoods have red bark underneath a layer of peeling white bark that looks nice all year round (and they also have wonderful spring flowers); while magnolias can bloom with purple or yellow blooms depending on the season.

Other plants to consider are those whose leaves change color with the seasons. Most notably is the Japanese Maple tree that has beautiful red foliage in autumn months.

Mix up your shapes in the garden

Think about it, would you want to look at a garden of all circles and squares? Probably not. Mixing up your shapes creates a more interesting scene. You can do this by planting the same type of plant in different sizes and shapes. For example, you can plant two or three different types of ornamental grasses with varying heights or mix in some plants with sharp leaves next to ones with rounded leaves.

Build an arbor or trellis

An arbor or trellis can add structure to your yard and can accentuate the most striking features. If it is placed in an area where it can be admired, there is no need to decorate it. A bench or swing could be placed underneath for the ultimate relaxation spot. An arbor can also be used as a focal point in the garden, especially when paired with climbing plants such as roses or jasmine.

Provide a place to sit, relax, and take it all in

  • A great tip for anyone designing their garden is to keep in mind the functionality of one’s garden. Think about how you want your garden to look, feel, and be used. Do you want a relaxing place to sit at the end of the day with your family? Do you want a place for guests to sit and relax? Think about what would make you most comfortable in your own backyard.
  • I recommend designing a place where you will go specifically for relaxation and contemplation. This can be simple or elaborate depending on how much space and money are available. Think about whether you will use this space alone, with friends, or with family members of all ages. This will help shape your design decisions later on in the process.
  • Once you have some ideas about what kind of relaxing place(s) that works best for you, think about where it would fit best in your design plan and start from there. The next step is choosing materials! You may already have an idea what sort of material (wood, stone) might work best with your home or its surroundings – this is a good starting point if so! If not then start thinking more generally: do I like natural materials like wood or concrete? Or maybe I love metal fixtures because they add some modern flair to my home’s exterior design scheme!

Landscape design can change your life as well as your home.

When you think of landscape design in terms of your personal life, you may be surprised by how it can change your day-to-day lifestyle.

If you love to entertain, the right design can make your yard a great place to host guests. Think about including a bar, fire pit, or other amenities that will make it more comfortable for people to spend time outdoors. Hosting parties and dinners are popular ways people use their yards, but don’t forget about things like outdoor movie nights with friends or pool parties with family.

On the other hand, if relaxation is more your thing, carefully chosen plants and well-designed hardscape elements like pathways and benches can turn your yard into a personal oasis. A lovely gazebo is another great idea for creating an area where you can relax and unwind after a long day at work. In fact, there are many options for people who want their yards to serve as a peaceful getaway from the stress of everyday life.Welcome to Landscape Design Tips That Can Change Your Life!

Are your neighbors rolling their eyes at the way your house looks? One easy way to spruce up the exterior of your home is with some landscaping. Here’s how you can get started.

Step 1: Look in Your Garage or Shed

Are you sitting on a bunch of old power tools? Got rusty old gardening equipment laying around somewhere? It may be time to put that stuff to use!

Step 2: Clean or Replace Your Tools

If you have a pressure washer, now is the time to pull it out. If you don’t, try renting one from a local home repair store. You can also consider buying one if you think it will come in handy for future projects. (Note: this is an investment, so make sure you actually need it!)

Next, inspect your gardening tools and plant containers. Make sure nothing is broken beyond repair and that all of your pots have holes at the bottom for adequate drainage.

Step 3: Get Some Plants!

Now it’s time to bring out some color! You can choose plants based on your climate and how much maintenance you want to do—be cautious buying plants that need a lot of water or require specific soil conditions.
